Dog Charms

Many people believe that dog charms (also known as talismans and amulets) could protect their dogs from bad luck and the charms will bless their dog pets. The dog charms are also associated with moon goddess.

Hystory of Charms

The charms have been used since ancient times. Egyptian pharaohs were the first who wear charms, they believed they could protect them and could help them to cross over the other world.

The charms traditions had been carried in the Roman Empire where the ancient Romans used it in worshipping rituals.

In the Middle Ages, the charms were also popular, they were worn by knights to show off their status, family origins but also and for protection in battles.

Unfortunately, in the Renaissance, the charms lost their popularity and they were almost forgotten.

Later, Queen Victoria brought them back and made them really popular by wearing bracelets which were charms. Then charms became popular in the World Wars, the soldiers and nurses wore them for safety. Their fiancées also began wearing charms which were decorated with small photo of their lovers.

Nowadays, you can still find people who wear charms, but the great popularity of charms has been carried to the pets and especially to the dog pets. It may sound strange, but our dogs are the savers of the charm tradition. So, it won't be far-fetched if we say that:

Dog Charms comes for Ancient Egypt

Our dogs wear dog charms for same reason as the Ancient Egyptian Pharaohs – to protect them. We love so much our dog pets that we try to protect them with something and many people find that it really works.

Some people consider the dog charms as jewelry, too. For that reason, you can find more expensive dog charms at the market, ex. golden dog charms. Do you find something similar with jewelry dog charms and the knight's charms for the Middle Ages? Same as the knights, some dog pets wear charms to flaunt the status of their owners – their family origins.
