How to Build a Cage for a Parrot
In this article you can learn how to build a cage for your parrot.
Things you'll need:
- heavy gauge wire
- clips
- tip
- stainless steel tray
Step 1. Planning
First thing you'll need to do is to decide what size and shape you want your cage to have. The larger is better, so you'll need to check how your cage's size will fit in the room, where the cage will be positioned.
Step 2. Make the cage frame
After knowing the dimensions of the future cage, you can make the cage frame.
If the height of the cage is different than the width, you will need to cut 4 wire cuts for the height, and 8 wire cuts for the bottom and the top of the cage. Connect them using cage clips or electric ties.
Step 3. Cover with wires
Cover the four walls and the top of the frame with wire, only the bottom of the frame must be without wire cover.
Step 4. Finish cage bottom area
Cut piece of tin and connect it to the bottom of the cage
You can also add lines of tin in all four walls at the bottom of the cage.
Step 5. Making a door
Cut the wire on one wall of the cage. Then connect a small section of wires that are a little larger than the cut, it will allow opening for the door.
Step 6. Make cleaning of the cage easier
Cut line at the bottom of some of the cage walls. Then put the stainless steel tray in the cage through the cut strip. Note: you'll need stainless steel tray with a size same as the size of the bottom of the cage, but little more longer, it'll make its sliding in and out easier.
Step 7: Final Check
The cage is almost ready. Before making it a home for your parrot, you'll need to check every area of the cage (both – inside and outside), it's very important step in which you can prevent future accidents.
Step 8: Cage Furnishing
In this step you need to furnish the cage with all necessary accessories: perches, mirrors, tug ropes, etc. Check again the entire cage and the new home for your parrot is ready.
