How to Clean a Parrot Cage
The cleaning of your parrot's cage is very important for your parrot's health. If you clean your parrot's cage regularly, it'll prevent disease and infection.
Daily Cleaning
You don't need to spend much time on daily cleaning of your parrot's cage – just 5 – 10 minutes for few simple tasks:
- 1. Wiping down the cage.
- 2. Check the perches; they must be free of feces.
- 3. Remove any food which you find around the cage.
1 or 2 Times a Week Cleaning
The cage's grates should be scrubbed using bird cage cleaner. But if you cannot find a bird cage cleaner, you can use water and soup. You should scrub the grater every 3 days, but if you're too busy on working days, you can do it once a week, at the weekend.
You should also inspect and clean all parrot's toys regularly.
Note: Clean all stainless steel materials with non-abrasive cleaner which are bird safe. If you cannot find such cleaner, use soap and water.
Seasonal Cleaning
Every season you can disinfect the cage, steps you need to are:
Step 1. Move your parrot cage outside of your home, your parrot must not be in the cage.
Step 2. Make a mix of water and bleach (an ounce of bleach to quart of water).
Step 3. Rinse the cage with the mix.
Step 4. Wait while the sun dry your cage and evaporate the mix.
